GOFAST wins the Federal Roads Office’s tender

To help the federal government reach its climate targets, the Federal Roads Office recently put 100 rest stops to tender. They are to be fitted with ultra-fast charging stations for electric cars, with the rest stops tendered in five packages of 20, for the next 30 years. Each package covers all of Switzerland.

Four months after the tender a decision has been made, GOFAST, the largest Swiss supplier of ultra-fast charging stations, scored 90% of the tender criteria. This put the start-up in first place, and it was able to choose from the five packages. GOFAST decided on the first package.

Planning and implementation? ‘As soon as possible’

Domenic Lanz, CEO of GOFAST is delighted with the decision. ‘As a Swiss start-up we are proud to have won our preferred package,’ he said, adding that the Federal Roads Office’s decision serves as confirmation of the company’s work to date.

Domenic Lanz: ‘With this decision, the panel of seven external ASTRA experts and specialists has acknowledged our concept and the investment we have made in developing the Swiss fast-charging network. We will start the planning and implementation as soon as possible. And we will be intensifying cooperation with federal authorities, cantons, municipalities, power plants and existing partners.’

And like the federal government, GOFAST wants to see an ultra-fast network of charging stations across the whole of Switzerland. The rest stop sites are a good fit with existing locations, says CEO Lenz.

Partnerships

In three years of operations, GOFAST has cooperated intensively with Swiss partners in various sectors, and this expertise has contributed to the development of its charging network. Its partners include companies like Energie 360°, EVTEC, Protoscar and swisscharge.ch, companies from other industries, private individuals, public sector authorities as well as prestigious Swiss power plants such as AET, AMB, EBS, EWB and WWZ, which have made their premises available to GOFAST. GOFAST aims to further expand these partnerships in the future to build an even denser loading network. This will benefit electric car drivers as well as partners. GOFAST recently entered into a new partnership with the Touring Club Suisse (TCS). The TCS will now start issuing membership cards that also serve as charging cards, which members can use to charge their e-cars on preferential terms.
