Take-off for airport e-Mobility
On 28 June, GOFAST began operating the first public fast-charging facility at Zurich Airport, one of Switzerland’s most important transport hubs. The system provides a further boost for the electrification of land-based passenger traffic. Electric cars with outputs of up to 300 kilowatts can be charged at the eight initial charging points.

Eight initial charging points with over 300 kilowatts
Business leaders and politicians attended the opening of the first public fast-charging hub at Zurich Airport on Wednesday, 28 June. The new charging station boasts GOFAST’s typical steel roof and can also be used by electric commercial vehicles because of its height. Under the solar roof, there are eight charging points with four High-Power Chargers, which is the name given to the units designed for maximum outputs. Each of these charging units has an output of over 300 kilowatts and can supply two charging points at the same time.s Electric cars can therefore gain an additional range of 200 kilometres in just ten minutes, with the effective charging speed varying depending on the vehicle model.
Airport supports decarbonisation

Along with other initiatives, the electrification of passenger transport is intended to help reduce the climate emissions of airport customers. ‘As we now have around 50 parking spaces fitted with AC slow-charging stations in our car parks, we wanted to give even more customers access to a charging station,’ says Stefan Gross from Flughafen Zürich AG. According to Stefan Gross, the GOFAST charging stations provide all customers with super-fast, convenient charging in an ideal location. This option is also useful for hire car customers and taxi companies, for example. |
Prepared for increased demand
In addition to the existing system, preparations are already underway to expand the facility, with earthworks for the roof and floor slabs visible at the site. ‘We anticipate that the current expansion will reach its capacity limits in a few years’ time,’ says GOFAST CEO Domenic Lanz. According to Lanz, both the empirical values and comparison with international trends not only revealed that fast-charging hubs must deliver excellent charging performance, but that sufficient charging points must also increasingly be made available. This excavation work has therefore already created the conditions to be able to increase the existing capacity relatively quickly if required.
Opening party and 30% discount in July
GOFAST held an opening party for the general public on Saturday, 1 July to celebrate its new location in a prominent position. The first 150 visitors enjoyed free refreshments from a food truck. The Square, AMAG AG’s e-Mobility centre, offered test drives of the latest electric cars, along with a competition to win a weekend in a 5-star hotel and the use of a VW ID.4 GTX. During the opening month, GOFAST is also offering its airport customers a 30 percent discount per charged kilowatt hour. The special price of CHF 0.45 per kilowatt hour applies until 31 July 2023. |
