“Fressbalken” becomes the largest fast-charging hub for electric cars
Swiss fast-charging specialist GOFAST has doubled the number of fast-charging points from 20 to 40 at the iconic Würenlos service station on the A1 motorway. The service station with shopping centre is thus continuing its consistent course towards e-mobility and is currently the largest fast-charging hub for electric cars in Switzerland. At the weekend, GOFAST customers will receive a 20 percent discount in Würenlos and a small surprise for the reopening.

Doubling the number of charging points
Swiss fast-charging provider GOFAST has been operating high-power charging (HPC) points for electric cars in both directions at the Würenlos service station with shopping centre since late 2019. Due to rising demand, the existing number of charging points has now doubled to 40 in recent weeks. The facility on the outskirts of Zurich has therefore become the largest fast-charging hub in the country. Thanks to the high charging power of up to 300 kilowatts, charging only takes around 20–30 minutes, depending on the vehicle type. Payments are made by credit card, with an app or using a charging card from common charging service providers. “With regard to increasing frequency in the coming years as well, we are pleased to be able to provide sufficient capacity for a brief charging stop at this attractive location,” says GOFAST CEO Domenic Lanz with satisfaction.
Complex construction work for high performance
Expanding the charging points posed challenges with regard to accessing electricity, particularly on the south side of the service station in the direction of Zurich. Due to the lack of a medium-voltage connection on this side of the motorway, GOFAST had to make do with a battery storage system to provide the necessary power for the HPC devices. Since the system reached its capacity limits with increasing utilisation, GOFAST also invested in a direct connection to the medium-voltage network with the expansion of the charging points by means of wash drilling under the motorway. In addition to the additional charging points, sufficient power is now available on both sides of the service station.
The 1970s icon is constantly evolving
With more than 110,000 vehicles per day, the A1 section near Würenlos is one of the busiest roads in Switzerland. The increasing electrification of road traffic prompted the operator of the service station with shopping centre, Bovida AG, to modernise and develop the service station back in 2019.

This led to the collaboration with GOFAST to operate a high-performance charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and to prepare for the future. In an initial expansion phase, ten fast-charging points were installed in each direction at the end of 2019. According to President of the Board of Directors Abraham Oliver, the owner is satisfied with the development: “Providing the infrastructure for e-mobility is an important part of our range of services, and we are delighted to have expanded our range to meet the ever-growing demand for fast-charging points.” |
Special promotion for the upgrade
To celebrate the upgrade, GOFAST is offering a 20 percent discount on all charges paid for by credit card in Würenlos from 15 to 17 November. In addition to the special price of 49 centimes per kilowatt hour, guests can also look forward to a little surprise from the Marché Restaurant in the service station with shopping centre.
